Automated Footpath Inspection System

PathWatcher is an AI-enabled pavement inspection system designed to modernize urban infrastructure monitoring. Developed in collaboration between LightHaus Photonics and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, PathWatcher addresses the inefficiencies of manual inspections by enabling rapid, precise detection of pavement defects. Its compact design allows it to be mounted on bicycles for easy mobility, while modular configurations support man-pack operations for less accessible areas.
Equipped with a suite of sensors comprising of high-resolution cameras, LiDAR, and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), PathWatcher delivers a comprehensive view of pavement conditions. Its optical imaging system delivers high-resolution, distortion-controlled imagery and provides panoramic context, while LiDAR measures uneven surfaces such as potholes and level differences, and the IMU tracks pavement profiles and platform orientation for precise detection of bumps or irregularities. Precise geo-localization is provided by a multiband GNSS receiver with Real Time Kinematics (RTK) capabilities, ensuring defect locations are mapped accurately for maintenance planning and reporting.
Coupled with AI-powered analytics, PathWatcher can automatically identify cracks, damaged tiles, grating issues, and other defects quickly and effectively.

All collected data is sent to the cloud for centralized management, visualization, and reporting. Automatically generated defect reports and push notifications enable maintenance teams to respond faster, plan repairs efficiently, and reduce reliance on manual inspections. PathWatcher also supports broader infrastructure assessments, helping cities maintain safer and more accessible public spaces.
